Just a few days ago, I wrote a post about picking a great cake flavor for Cheech's first birthday party. I know I'm over thinking it, and I know to Cheech, and all babies for that matter, cake is probably just cake, but I still want it to be special. When my ridiculously clever friend, Lauren, explained that after all these years, she still holds onto a little raccoon figurine that was used to decorate her first cake, I just about died. Surely, Cheech will not remember the flavor of her first cake, nor will she remember how it was decorated, but I love the idea of her being able to forever posses a little keepsake from the momentous occasion.

So, I went on the hunt for something RAD. I came across a few vintage cake toppers that remind me of her, but when I saw this post on DIY Party Animal Candles, I couldn't help but think that miniature gold animals seem to fit her quirky personality so perfectly. The girl has shown a soft spot in her heart for Curious George, so perhaps a sweet, little monkey is in order? She's quite fond of our kitty, too, though. Whatever we end up choosing, you know what else is so awesome about this project? She can use her personalized candle holder for her birthday cake every year. I'm sold.

  4. I have a set of tiny silver animal candle holders that a friend of my mother's gave me when I was little. They made an appearance most years but I had forgotten about them until my mom gave them to me for E. I cried. Definitely don't remember the cakes though (most likely sugar-free carob...blech).

  9. mkay i have been thinking about all kinds of different figurines. an adler ornament? (too modern) the lion salt shaker i bought for his room? maybe. but what i really love are these woodem figurines http://thewoodenwagon.com/woodentoys/ostheimer-farm.html but would it be strange to put the wood in cake frosting? and, what if i get around to buying him a few to play with? then is it like, so what, you put one of my toys in my cake? big deal.

    hmmm i am so confused.
