Um, it has just come to my attention that NOW (or even a couple months ago) is a good time to get Cheech in the the habit of brushing her teeth daily. Did you know they're supposed to start so young, because I most certainly did not. Seeing as she only has 2.5 teeth, and isn't exactly downing cans of coka-cola, it really never occurred to me to start thinking about her oral hygiene. I was also reading that experts recommend taking your baby for their first dentist visit by their first birthday; That's in about 3 1/2 months for us. Is it me, or is that totally bananas? So, what say you? Did you start your kids young too? Am I the only one who's been left in the dark on this subject?

The Baby Banana Training Toothbrush, which apparently, I need to get right away.

  1. I don't know if it is bananas or not. My mom says she never did this, but then again, I had several cavities in my milk teeth years.

    I got a really soft silicone finger toothbrush for Dax when he was maybe 11 months old. He always really liked it because I was gentle and unconcerned about brushing his teeth and I let him chew on it. He just graduated to a solid toothbrush and instantly learned the sign for "brush your teeth" and wanted to brush his teeth 10 times a day for several days. Mostly he loves the sweet safe-for-consumption toothpaste.

  2. We gave E a toothbrush when she was a bitty baby, but only to distract her while we combed the knots out of her hair. Only now did I realize we were kinda brilliant. She "brushes" (aka chews the toothbrush then tries tonfeed it tothe dig) her teeth with her dad every morning. We didn't visit the dentist. That seems a bit too much but what do I know?

  3. my husband just took our 9 month old to the dentist this morning! she did great...and all they do is check to see how things are coming along, she has two teeth and is about to cut a top tooth or two. they suggested that she brush in the am after breakfast and pm, after her last nursing. she got a fluoride treatment (!) and they suggested she drink 4-6oz of water each day for the fluoride that's in that. who knew?

  4. oh man, sometimes I feel like I have NO IDEA what I'm doing. but then again, with formula fed babies, it kind of seems natural that we start brushing their teeth early. Wolf has two teeth and at night I wipe them off with a clean towel before he falls asleep but that's it. I like the idea of a soft silicone finger brush and maybe he'd like that better than mom sticking her fingers in his mouth with a cloth {which he HATES!}
