Yeah, we finally tried the nosefirda and it totally kicks ass. Unfortunately it is no easier to get it into (or at) the baby's nose than the bulb is (if you have a defiant one like ours), but once there it is so much more effective, and completely worth the struggle.

Now what to do about his poor little rattling chest cough?

  2. oh man. it is awesome. unfortunately, dax still has ptsd from getting his nose sucked out and cries so hard when i even gesture towards his face.

for the cough/breaking up the phlegm, try a cheap vaporizer with some eucalyptus oil in its little tray. they sell them at drug stores.

  3. we just went through a round of a cold and then croup and then a cold with our 7 month old- a humidifier in the bedroom at night and during naps seemed to help a lot.

if the cough is of the croup variety, our doctor recommended bundling her up and going out into the cold for a few minutes- the cold air shrinks the (?? something related to the cough) -- it definitely helped.

have you tried boogie wipes? the idea seemed so silly to me until i had a baby with a snotty crusty nose. the wipes are just saline and are a gentle way to clean up the icky crustiness.

hope the babe is feeling better soon!

  4. Have you tried one of those plug in thingies that you put essential oils in and it heats up a little bit and fills the room with the smell? We have one and we put eucalyptus and lavender in it and plug it in by the cot at night and it really seems to help.

  5. Tried to buy one of those today! They were out. Glad to hear that it works better than the blue bulb. I will be getting one for sure!

  6. I don't know why, but I find this hilarious (not that she's sick, of course! - just the need for a nose sucker). The fact that babies can't blow their own noses is the sort of thing that just NEVER occurs to you until you have a baby, apparently.

  7. I freaking LOVE the Nosefrieda. Combined with the saline spray, it has helped us through not one, not two but three nasty baby colds this year. As for the cough: our pediatrician told us to give her a spoonful of honey!

  9. Just a question, isn't honey SUPER dangerous for babies under 12 months old?

Good luck getting rid of this cold... with mine, the cough eventually went away on it's own, although it was heartbreaking to hear her caughing all night :( I used to rub a Timian cream on her chest, the strong smell helped her open up her chest a bit, but you know, that's just an ol'wives remedy... Could me a mentol baby crem too.
