Wow, guys, I don't even know how to thank you for your overwhelming support regarding Monday's post. Like I mentioned, I wasn't sure if I was ready to share my story but in an odd way this has taken a huge weight off my shoulders and in turn, helped with the healing process. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in this and that even those of you who can't relate are still so compassionate. L's had a lot of trouble digesting different formulas, so about 6 weeks ago I stopped by a holistic pharmacy to buy her some probiotics (which have helped immensely). Anyway, I quickly and vaguely explained to the pharmacist that was *helping* me why I was not able to breastfeed and her response was, "That's too bad... there's so much you could have done." I stood there speechless and heartbroken. I'm not sure if that was her way of trying to make me feel better, but it did the total opposite. Needless to say, that situation left me a little wounded and I think it contributed to why it's been hard for me to be so open about this. So again, from the bottom of my broken but mending heart, thank you.

@Abbi I know other women who have had the procedure done, and they also have been very happy with the results. However, if you're only a few years away from having kids, I would wait. Many women end up with larger breasts after breastfeeding anyway. Even after the operation, my breasts continued to grow until I was 23, so I'm not much smaller than I was prior. Had I known that I had a forever-growing chest, I would have waited. ;)

@krista We miss you too. Just move here. LA's too hot anyway.

@alloblro That story is GUT WRENCHING. Give your friend a big hug for me, ok?

@alyson Wolf and Cheech are pretty amazing, aren't they?

And to those of you formula babies that said you're smart and love your moms, I REALLY needed to hear that.

Thank You Card, Jon Klassen

  1. Thank you for sharing your brave story with all of us Moms and Dads (Aunts, Uncles and those to be...). One quick question: what kind of probiotics are you using? We've been trying to learn more about how we can supplement for our 5 month old daughter.

  2. hi boyardie!

we use HLC neonate by pharmax. it was one of the few baby probiotics i found that didn't have any extra additives. L's had a lot of problems with formulas and there seems to only be one organic one on the market that is gentle enough on her system. unfortunately, it's not my first pick, but that's just the way it goes. it never would have occurred to me that babies can't digest just any formula and you have to find the one that's the right fit. anyway, we started using the probiotic about 6 weeks ago, and it's made a tremendous difference. we use it every other day. even her personality seems to be better. i've also heard that babies that incorporate probiotics into their diets rarely, if ever, get ear infections. so i definitely recommend them for everyone. good luck!
